Founded in 2010, smartapps is the brainchild of Frédéric Durand and Damien Debin, who came up with the innovative solution while visiting the Museum of Modern Art in Paris.
The co-founders developed a digital solution to enrich cultural experiences through an app, downloaded directly on any smartphone by visitors. From mobile apps to Web apps and on-site solutions, smartapps have become the first leader on the market with an impressive list of clients.
smartapps offers a content-management system (CSM) that allows institutions and museum to drag and drop their contents, which will then appear on their apps. We then accompany our clients by bringing our needed expertise in digital cultural mediation, tech development and UX design (user experience). We rely on real practices and today’s user needs to always offer a modern product, adapted to your visitors’ expectations. This philosophy allows us to create value, which is essential for visitor satisfaction and experience enrichment.
smartapps counts over 100 clients, some of the largest museums such as Le Louvre, Paris Musées, Culturespaces, Paris City Vision, Nancy Musées or the cities of Deauville and Montrouge. We also have also worked internationally with the Pinault Collection in Venice, the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, as well as Chaplin’s World and the Musée Cantonal des Beaux–Arts in Lausanne. Since the beginning, the +500 apps we have developed have been downloaded over 5 million times.

One of the main components of digital is democratizing access to culture, especially people with disabilities and unfavored audiences. We strongly believe in our contribution to inclusion for better access to information. We work closely with associations, NGOs and strategic partners to evolve our understanding of specific needs. Our approach to accessibility offers custom solutions for, almost, all disabilities and visitors with special needs.
